PM Modi is star-campaigner of BJP. He is always seen rallying for his party in all elections, be it at national or state level. He was visible in similar ‘avatar’ in 5 assembly elections that just went by.
Narendra Modi focused with all of his energy on assembly elections and campaigned in states like Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Still, BJP was unable to register win here.
According to media reports, from all seats that BJP lost in 2018 assembly elections; 70% were those constituencies where PM Modi campaigned.
Out of all rallies that PM Modi did in assembly elections, 70 percent were done in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan (22 seats). These states were being ruled by Shivraj Chauhan and Vasundhra Raje. Even after that, BJP got only 22 seats out of 54 in these states. Now, Madhya Pradesh CM is Kamal Nath and that of Rajasthan is Ashok Gehlot.
He also did 8 rallies in Chhattisgarh and Telangana. Here also, BJP won only 1 out of 26 seats where he did rallies.
Actually, 5 states witnessed elections during November and at start of December. Those 5 states were Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Mizoram and Chhattisgarh. These elecion results hold importance as they happened just few months before 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
There was BJP rule in 2 out of 5 states for many years. Still, ‘Modi-factor’ didn’t worked here. It can be said that PM Modi’s magic is fading away.
Even UP CM Yogi Adityanath campaigned for BJP during these elections. However, his efforts also didn’t yield much results.
He did 58 rallies for BJP in 4 states. BJP was able to win only 27 seats among them. He did a little better than Modi.
These assembly election results show that neither Modi-wave worked nor BJP popularity. Above stats show that BJP will have to re-think over its plan as it is unable to gather seats with Modi’s face. Will 2019 elections hold same fate for BJP?
