The elections for 17th Lok Sabha are going to happen next month and Congress is projecting itself as one of the strong contender in the fight. The national-level party has released third list of its candidates for the elections.

It is to note that this list has candidates which comprises 5 from Assam, 2 from Meghalaya, 1 from Nagaland, 1 from Sikkim, 8 from Telangana and 1 from Uttar Pradesh. The list contains in total of 18 candidates for the general elections.

During the 2014 Lok Sabha elections Congress won 44 seats while UPA got 60 seats in total. In Telangana there are 17 Lok Sabha seats from which Congress won 2. In Assam, it won 3. Uttar Pradesh has 80 Lok Sabha seats and here also Congress faced a big defeat by bagging only 2 seats.

This time Congress needs to work more hard to change numbers. However, the grand old party claims that mood of nation is in its favour based on the recent Assembly elections where it made government in three states. The elections will start from 11th April and will go on till May 19 in seven phases. Counting of votes will be done on 23rd May.
