All parties have geared up as Election Commission announced dates for Lok Sabha elections yesterday. It has been declared that the elections for 17th Lok Sabha will be held in 7 phases. Voting will be done between 11th April to 19th May and counting will be done on 23rd May.

However, there has been a lot of alliances making and breaking that has been going on for this elections. Have a look on all the pre-election preparations going on in states which will be voting in phase 1: –

  • Voting for phase 1 will take place on 11th April in 91 constituencies of 20 states. Votes will be cast in Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Manipur, Odisha, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Andaman and Lakshadweep, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Assam, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Telangana, Tripura.
  • It is to note that not all seats will go under voting in these states. This will happen in phases for some states like UP.
  • Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have been in news for quite some time over pre-poll alliance formations in both the states. In Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party have joined hands under the leaderships of Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati respectively. They also have support of Rashtriya Lok Dal. Congress will be contesting for elections on its own while BJP has not yet announced its plan for this state.
  • In Bihar there has been formation of a grand alliance of parties like RJD, RLSP, Congress, etc. On the other hand BJP will get support of Janata Dal (United).
  • According to NDTV, Arunachal Pradesh will go through Lok Sabha elections and assembly elections on the same day, i.e. on 11th April.
  • Jammu and Kashmir will also be going through elections in the first phase. This state has always been negatively publicized by media and has been victim of militancy and terrorist activities alike. There was rule of BJP-PDP alliance earlier in the state which was broken that led to falling of the state government in 2018. This was followed by Governor’s rule and later by President’s rule.
