Seven IL&FS employees have been held hostage in Ethiopia by locals. They are in danger because the company was unable to pay salaries to the locals in the East African country. Hostages have asked for help from Indian government.

A tweet was posted by Neeraj Raghuwanshi asking for help from Narendra Modi and Sushma Swaraj. There are reports that MEA is trying to rescue the hostages. Yet, the condition seems to be critical as employees are suffering due to ‘company mistake’. He has even expressed concern of being murdered by those who have held them hostage in an e-mail.

Khurrram Imam also tweeted regarding the issue and asked for help from the government.

Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Limited (IL&FS) is an Indian infrastructure and finance company. This company has constantly been is losses. It was back in 2016 when this company won a Rs 1,525 crore road contract in Ethiopia. The contract was given by Ethiopian Roads Authority to IL&FS for completing the project in 8 years. However, money shortage has landed the company in problem.

The situation is tense and employees are waiting for help from the government. It is a serious issue which should be solved by the ministry as soon as possible.
