The admission process schedule for 2019-20 session in Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has come. All the course applications will be available from the official website of university on March 15.

But, the admission process is in controversy because it has become expensive now. Also, prospectus has been leaked even before the university’s  website issued its e-prospectus. There are various other important issues that JNU student union (JNUSU) is raising.

This year the JNU entrance examination will be conducted online. JNU student wing says that the administration could not secure the original documents such as e-prospectus, then how can JNU student organization or JNU student administration believe that they can be successful in organizing free and fair online entrance exam without leaking paper?

JNU Student Union announced a strike on Thursday. JNU Student Union alleged that JNU’s prospectus has been leaked even before the university’s e-prospectus was issued. Entrance fees mentioned in the prospectus has been increased by 300 percent. Also, the University has closed BA Lateral Entry Program in the School of Language. In the past M.Phil and PhD used to be the same program. They will also be separated now.

It is to note that all this information has been received from leaked prospectus. JNU Student Union blames that all these decisions have been taken unofficially by keeping the student union away from the academic council and admission meetings. They even held protests for it.

Due to 300 per cent increase in fees, students will have to pay Rs 3600 for general category,  2700 rupees by OBC students and Rs 1800 by SC-ST students to fill the choice in a stream. It has also been mentioned in the prospectus that if a student does not give an examination for any reason, the money will not be refunded. In the student application last year, one to three streams could be selected.

JNU student wing president N Sai Balaji said that the VC used autocratic methods and rejected all the decisions of academic council, executive council meetings and other committees. Instead VC chose to take all the decisions himself.

The student union alleges that when VC Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar came, library fund reduced by 80 percent and the money was being used to beautify the campus and make statues.
