Mayawati has said that Bahujan Samaj Party won’t form any alliances with Congress throughout the country for elections. She announced this at a party meeting. It is to note that BSP has formed alliance with Samajwadi Party for upcoming elections.

Mayawati also mentioned that her alliance with SP is perfect to defeat BJP in elections and that too especially in UP. It is to note that Uttar Pradesh is a state from which most of the Lok Sabha seats come, i.e. 80. Both BSP and SP have strong hold in this state. However, BJP won in this state with majority seats during 2014 elections.

Five years ago, SP had won 7 seats in the state while BSP stood at 0. BJP also has good numbers in the state and won 71 seats in 2014. However, if vote percentage is to be kept in mind then the combination of SP and BSP makes it up to 41.8% according to 2014 stats.

Even the prospects of BSP for other states is good. It was unable to bag any seats in 16th Lok Sabha, but got third largest vote share. BSP also won seats in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan during recent assembly elections. It won seats in 3 out of 5 states.

This is not the first time that Mayawati has expressed that there will be no alliance with Congress. When there was joint press conference of Akhilesh and Mayawati, at that time also she made this alliance equation clear. On the other hand, Congress has failed its alliance talks with another Dalit leader namely Prakash Ambedkar. He has decided to go solo during elections with his party Bharipa Bahujan Mahasangh in Maharashtra.
