Air Pollution becomes prime time topic as Diwali gets closer. Many enviornmentalists blame sale of firecrackers as one of the reason that leads of air pollution. Last year, a Blanket ban was imposed in the National Capital Region (NCR).
However, Supreme Court has turned down the idea of nationwide blanket ban on sale of firecrakers. People can burst low-emission firecrackers between 8 pm and 10 pm this Diwali, the Supreme Court said on Tuesday.

The court has also stipulated a 35-minute window for new year celebrations. It has set a time between 11:55 pm to 12:30 am for bursting crackers. No fire crackers would be allowed to burst during the day.
Despite allowing sale of crackers, SC has banned online sale of crackers. It said that, “low polluting” green crackers which are within permitted decibel limits and emission norms will be allowed.
Supreme Court’s verdict has come in response to a petition filed by 3 toddlers and their parents. Petition was against sale of firecrackers across the country to curb air pollution. Now, there won’t be cracker-free Diwali. Instead there will be heated debates on news shows.
