Sadhvi Pragya Thakur is in controversy since she joined BJP. Just one day after Pragya was declared as BJP candidate for Bhopal, she said that she was tortured in jail. She said in an election rally that this is the reason why she cursed Hemant Karkare due to which he died.
It is obviously wrong that any inmate is tortured by the police who have their custody. However, reports suggest that her allegations are false. Supreme Court, Bombay High Court and even National Human Rights Commission have already termed her allegations as false.
In the year 2015, National Human Rights Commission had closed this case saying that ‘her allegations are not based on any facts. The commission had given this decision based on the evidences it got from jail, court and the hospital where she was admitted to.’
Actually, Pragya Thakur is one of the accused in 2008 Malegaon blasts. Malegaon Blast was called as a terrorist attack by the investigating agencies. In this case Pragya Thakur has been sentenced to 9 years in jail and is currently out on bail on ‘Health Grounds’.
Pragya Thakur was under the custody of Hemant Karkare. However, he died in 26/11 terrorist attacks in the year 2008. He was also awarded Ashok Chakra posthumously.
It is worth noting that BJP gave ticket to a person who is accused of terrorism. It clears that they can stoop down to that level for elections.
