Sardar Patel’s statue is all set to be inaugurated on 31st October. It also marks birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. However, tribals have called for a bandh on the same day. This is to protest against ‘Statue of Unity’ which nowhere united them with “BJP’s India”. Instead, it was a reason for displacement of many farmers and tribals of that area.

Dilip Mandal wrote, “Sardar Patel was leader of farmers. It’s good that his statue is being made. However, lands of farmers and tribals were snatched from them due to this statue. That is why they are protesting against it.”

People are protesting against Rs 3,000 crore statue which has forced them to leave their land and get relocated by the government. Around 75,000 tribals are preparing to protest on the day of inauguration of statue.

According to media reports, around 72 villages have been affected due to this project. From that, 32 villages are most affected and 19 villages have not seen any relocation of natives. Tribals and farmers aren’t opposed to Sardar Patel. Instead they are opposing the oppression done by the government. They are claiming that they have not been relocated.

Chhotubhai Vasava has uploaded documents signed by more than 10 village Sarpanchs on Facebook. These documents contain statements of Sarpanchs who don’t want PM Modi to come on dam on 31st October.

Earlier, Medha Patkar was arrested because she was protesting for people who got displaced due to this project. This statue is facing protests even before its inauguration. All this is because it has harmed; both people as well as environment.
