Today, Kerala police decided to give cover to two women so that they could enter the Sabarimala temple. But both women had to return without going inside the temple due to tense conditions. They were forced to return by a large group of protesters including the priest and Sangh Parivar activists. These people were protesting against the Supreme Court judgement.
Kerala’s Sabarimala temple had opened for the first time on Wednesday evening for women who were denied equality for ages. The historic Supreme Court verdict soon became controversial when mobs tried to stop women from entering into the temple.
One of the women Mary Sweety turned midway by the protestors. The other women was ia journalist who had covered a 4.7 km trek uphill denied entry into the temple and detained at the Nadappanthal.
The Sabarimala temple head priest (Tantri) Kandararu Rajeevararu has warned to stop prayers and rituals at the shrine if women of 10 to 50 age group are allowed to the sannidhanam.
Sabarimala Temple website has issued a notice explaining that since Lord Ayyappa was “Nithya Brahmachari” – or celibate – women in the 10-50 age group are not allowed to enter.” Such women who try to enter Sabarimala will be prevented by authorities,” the website reads.
