It seems as if the judiciary is finding it difficult to hear the petition challenging the decision to appoint M Nageshwar Rao as interim director of CBI. Now, Justice AK Sikri has refused to hear it.

Justice Sikri said during hearing that this case is quite interesting and important. But, he doesn’t want to hear it. A different bench will be hearing this petition tomorrow. Senior advocate Dushyant Dave had demanded that Justice Sikri should hear this petition.

While demanding that case should be heard, Dushyant Dave said that a meeting of Select Committee is to be held. So, if there will be no hearing on the petition then it will be disappointing. It is to note that the petition has been filed by an NGO – Common Cause.

Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh tweeted, “When the judges are themselves afraid in a country, then how will they give justice?”

Prashant Bhushan also tweeted saying, “Justice Sikri also recused himself from hearing our petition challenging the appt of interim CBI Dir Nageshwar Rao. Earlier the CJI had recused himself saying that he is in the HPC meeting today to select new Director. Petition is made almost infructuous.”

Also, Justice Sikri was part of the select committee which removed Alok Verma as CBI director. This committee had decided to remove Alok from his post without listening to ‘his side of the story’.
